Special Care Nannies providing specialized childcare placements for families with special needs children
"We contacted Special Care Nannies after failing to find the right person through many sources. Anie took the time to understand our family's needs and sent us several qualified and experienced candidates. She then worked with us to prepare our new nanny for the job and continued to guide her for the first few months of employment with specific recommendations based on her knowledge of autism spectrum disorders. I would highly recommend Special Care Nannies for any family with a special needs child."

Anie Tandler, M.A., Executive Director of Special Care Nannies, also works as a behavioral consultant for children and adolescents.

During the past 25 years, she has worked as a classroom teacher in a variety of general and special education school settings in the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Area, including The Psychiatric Institute, The Foundation Schools, Georgetown Day School, and Fairfax County Public Schools.  Anie has participated as a member of many collaborative and treatment teams, which developed educational, behavioral, and social goals and implemented interdisciplinary plans to help students increase school performance and success.

Working as behavioral consultant, Anie recognized the unmet demand for specialized childcare, which was often expressed by families and colleagues.

To meet this need, Anie founded Special Care Nannies in 2004.  This unique service has redefined the roles that nannies take in caring for children.  With training and collaboration, our Special Care Nannies are able to skillfully provide the structure and support needed for optimal  social, academic, and developmental progress for children with special needs.

Anie received an M.A. in Education and Human Development from The George Washington University and a B.S. in Special Education from the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.  In addition, she is certified in Life Space Crisis Intervention (LSCI), a program which works to enable troubled youth to prevent and resolve crises in their own lives and help them learn to change repetitive patterns of self-defeating behavior.
